Welcome

Welcome to my academic website. I am Dr. Raj Korpan, an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an affiliated Doctoral Faculty in Computer Science at The Graduate Center, CUNY. I direct the Trustworthy, Intelligent, and Explainable Robotics (TIER) Lab, founded in September 2023, where my research focuses on building socially aware, trustworthy, and explainable robotic systems that can safely and ethically interact with people in everyday environments.

My work lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, human-robot interaction (HRI), cognitive science, machine learning (ML), and ethics. I am especially committed to ensuring that AI and robotics serve society equitably.

I was formerly an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Iona University from 2021-2023. I received a B.S. in Economics and Finance from Bentley University in 2010, an M.S. in Statistics from Baruch College, CUNY in 2015, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from The Graduate Center, CUNY in 2021.
